NABJ President Barbara Ciara condemned National Public Radio (NPR) for Friday’s cancelation of the daily hour-long news program “News & Notes,” which incorporates a black perspective in news coverage.

In the letter, Ciara asked the organization how it could plan to lay off black staff members and cancel the program just as issues of disparity in the black community are brought to light.

An advocacy group established in 1975 in Washington, D.C., NABJ is the largest organization of journalists of color in the nation, with more than 4,100 members, and provides educational, career development and support to black journalists worldwide.
