STATEMENT FROM NABJ PRESIDENT KATHY TIMES ON THE SHIRLEY SHERROD DISCUSSION
San Diego, July 29, 2010 -- Where do we go from here?
It is clear that some media companies dropped the ball.
Mrs. Sherrod’s story helps us examine the question of how as journalists do we pick up the ball and investigate deeper issues that have been raised by this experience?
I challenge all journalists and our members to look closely at race relations in the Department of Agriculture and the plight of black farmers.
This is just the beginning of a critical conversation and her attendance here today is a great start.
An advocacy group established in 1975 in Washington, D.C., NABJ is the largest organization of journalists of color in the nation, with more than 4,100 members, and provides educational, career development and support to black journalists worldwide.
