Presidential Candidate Sen. Barack Obama to Speak at NABJ Convention & Career Fair in Las Vegas
Washington, D.C., July 19, 2007 - Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. will address members of the National Association of Black Journalists at the 32nd NABJ Convention & Career Fair set for Aug. 8-12 at Bally's Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, the association and his campaign jointly announced today.
With more than 3,000 journalists and media professionals expected to attend, the convention will be the largest gathering of journalists of color in the United States this year. Obamas appearance on Friday, Aug. 10 will be part of a two-day discussion, A Conversation with Americas Candidates. Sen. Hillary Clinton will speak on Thursday, Aug. 9. The events will be sponsored by Microsoft Corporation and AOL Black Voices.
Sen. Obama has certainly been a dynamic force on the campaign trail, said NABJ President Bryan Monroe, vice president and editorial director of Ebony and Jet magazines in Chicago. We are looking forward to hearing his views on issues and taking questions from our members.
In the past few years, President George W. Bush, former President Bill Clinton, Sen. John Kerry, former Secretary of State Colin Powell and current Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice have addressed NABJ journalists at conventions.
There is a hunger in America for leadership that we have not seen in generations, said Senator Barack Obama. At this critical time, I look forward to speaking with the distinguished members of NABJ about what I will do as President to set a new course so that every American can experience the full measure of opportunity our nation has to offer.
This years NABJ convention titled Revolutionizing Journalism, Transforming the Future will emphasize changes in the media industry and how journalists can position themselves for the next decade and beyond. The five-day gathering will feature major plenary discussions on Politics and Campaign '08, as well as a frank conversation on race, inclusion and the media with leaders in the news industry.
