NABJ Needs Your Fresh Ideas, Energy and Enthusiasm
Dear NABJ Family,
Thank you for entrusting me with NABJ's future and for the generous hugs and kudos that poured in after an exciting race. Now it is time to get down to business. Please take a look at the committees and task forces listed on www.nabj.org. Email me and let me know what you are passionate about doing for NABJ.
Do you have fresh ideas for recruiting, reclaiming and retaining members? We will tackle the membership reclassification issue cautiously and expeditiously. Do you know how to raise funds or have contacts that can help us secure grants?
I'm also looking for an energetic Region VI director. This Board position has the responsibility for California and ten other western states and will be integral in the planning for the 2010 San Diego convention.
I also welcome your feedback as we redesign NABJ's Web site and create NABJ360. Check out NABJ 360 at www.NABJ360.com for details and email me your thoughts.
I would like to thank those who attended the convention and at more than 1,900 strong, exceeded our projections. I'm getting great reviews on it and hearing from members who are rededicating themselves to NABJ.
I also would like to express my enthusiasm for the talented Board that recently took office. This Board represents a cross-section of the industry with a blend of veterans, NABJ babies and young journalists who represent the future of our organization.
Please look around your newsrooms and offices and encourage co-workers to rejoin or join NABJ. We need each other to get through the layoffs, downsizing and furloughs. I know the anxiety is taking its toll. I know you are doing more with less and the stress makes you want to holler.
But we will get through this and emerge stronger and more prepared to deal with the challenges of the future. Healthy NABJ will be a year-round initiative. Tell a friend NABJ is on the move. With your help, NABJ and its chapters will thrive!
Yours in service,
Kathy Y. Times
NABJ President
